I thought I liked long hair till you shaved off all yours.
Then you changed my opinion on moustaches.
And whenever we’re in the same room,
it’s like our smiles are in constant competition,
spewing out sunshine, making the room warmer.

They should make a bath bomb out of your essence
I’d soak in you all day. You make me so happy I cry.
With you, I run out of ways to express happiness.
So! I let a single tear trail down my cheek every
single time you come to mind. A warm, magical tear.
It trails down, slowly, like time whenever we talk.

About the poem | this is another 2018 piece, that was a really good year writing wise. I was in a very dreamy state because I was finally united with the love of my life — neuroscience! This was a great year for me self actualisation and what not, all my chakras were aligned. I wrote a lot of very whimsical, romcom, delicious short pieces. This one in particular was inspired by my crush that year, what a lovely human (cue Tamia’s So Into You). I remember the day I send him a voice message when I was high and woke up in a panic to delete it hours later only to realise it was too late, so like the smart person I am, I then send an even more embarrassing message where I told him to ignore me if I’d made things weird or say hie if we’re still cool. He said hie :) And that’s not even my most jarring crush related tale ( I once wrote X an email in the spirit of shoot your shot — don’t ask where I got the email addy— he responded though and asked me out for coffee when he saw me in the lecture the next day :).

Lastly if you peeped the movie on the screen in the pillow fort image, thought I’ll share, in no particular order, my top 5 romcoms (not really top because my tastes change all the time and I hate picking faves)

  1. Bridget Jones’ Diary films.
  2. Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging.
  3. Sense and Sensibility.
  4. Love Actually.
  5. Bride and Prejudice.

Suffice to say anything Jane Austen related really as 80% of the list is Austen film adaptations. Anyway besos xxx
